I have now set up a url for my website
www.summerthor.webeden.co.uk

I am now in the process of playing around with templates and seeing what works.

WebEden

After facing problems with the school system when it came to the blocking of useful websites we have finally found one that will work on the school systems. We are having a tutorial lesson for the site on Friday the 2nd of March for which I will unfortunately be absent so I have decided to get on and have a look and play around on the site to see if I can get to grips with it. If not I will seek further help when Mrs Aldridge is free but I'm sure in time I'll pick it up. I will blog my progress with the site once I have had a look.

Crucial Parts

From looking at the two artists sites I have now gained an understanding of what main links are needed on an artists official website.
  • Home page
  • Gallery
  • News
  • Log in/sign up
  • About
A video link, youtube link and social networking links may also enhance the website.

Kate Bush Official Site

Kate Bush is also known for her extravagant style in many ways, therefor I am expecting her website to reflect this. The first link to Kate Bushs' official site is a video of an animation linked to Kate Bush with the option above to enter the site. Once on the main home page there is a record with the album title in the center and the page links around the inner circle. This is a simple image that may work with a similar object for my site. I could have a go at editing many objects and see which works best.

The links are; home, images, news, video, discography, shop. There is also a twitter, facebook and youtube link in the upper corner of the page with an option to log in or sign up. This will encourage fans to log in/sign up and feel exclusive, like they are "in on" something, also giving them a sense of closeness to the artist. Again, similar to Florence and the Machines site the house style stays the same throughout the site only the information alters from page to page. Overall the site is simple yet effective. Below is an example of the background that is used throughout the pages.

Florence and the Machine Official Site

Earlier on in my research into brand identity I looked at Florences' website, this was just before the release of her second album Ceremonials. Her website was then based around her first album release 'Lungs' continuing the brand identity of the lungs design overlayed onto her chest, and general eery house style.

The site then had a link to the 'Ceremonials' page which was an all black page with just the Ceremonials album cover and release date on. This was a great way to give fans and sneak peak into her new brand identity and advertise when the album was available for download and to buy.

Now the Ceremonials album is released Florences' site has had a brand identity overhaul. Throughout many of Florence's performances since the release of her second album tall windows have been a running theme, almost like church windows with white angelic lighting and dancers in soft floating dresses with contemporary choreography.

Whereas Florence has portrayed a very strong, yet still elegant woman in her performances. She seems to have replaced her old fancy, floaty ways to a more controlled, power on stage and I think this is all very cleverly linked in with the brand identity through her Ceremonials album and website. I have noticed that the Florence and the Machine title has stayed the same from the start as with the majority of artists, this gives the audience a sense of familiarity.

The brand identity from performances, personality, tracks and the album is all reflected on the official website. For instance the windows on the home page http://florenceandthemachine.net/ frame the page changing to pastel purples, green and yellow also changing images to coincide with the colours. This gives the page a sense of continuity throughout.

The home page also shows links to Florences recent events/appearances and a window showing the official video for her single 'No' as well as ten main links to other pages on the site. They are as follows; Home, news, blog, about, media, video, gallery, live, sign up, flotique and members.

I have had a look at each page and although the information and topic changes on each page the exterior design stays exactly the same. This is a simple yet effective way of continuing the House style throughout the website and could potentially be an idea for my website as I wont have to create an image for each page I will simply just have to create an interesting continuous brand identity to carry on throughout the pages.

Web Research

I have decided to do some research on musicians/bands official web pages, this will ensure that I know what the most important links are to include on the website, what most home pages look like, how they continue brand identity etc.
I have chosen to look at Florence and the Machines official website and also Kate Bushs'. I have chosen these two artists as Florence is very similar to my artist and both Kate and Florence have an eccentric style both through their music, style and brand identity.

To Do List

To do list;

Find a suitable font for my artist that suits her brand identity and house style
Use editing software to edit interior images making the second image the same as the first
Research the interiors of digi packs to find out what I could put in there other than images, what text etc

Pleased So Far

I have almost completed the exterior of my digi pack, all I have to do now is find a suitable font to use as my artists brand identity. I researched this in November and found it really hard to find a font that I thought suited "Summer Thor" but this will be my next task so I can get my digi pack complete. I am unable to upload an image of my progress so far but I will attempt again next lesson.

Decision for back image

I have decided to use the image of water for the back cover of my digi pack as it has a sense of continuity from the front cover. The two images of the bowl and food colouring will then also fit together nicely for the interior of my digi pack as they are the exact oppostire of each other.

Internet Proplems

As I can not access the site used to create the websites I will continue work on my digi pack. When I was previously having problems with the computer software in november I began drafts for my digi pack and also took images. This is all shown earlier on in my blog.

Video Update

I have finished my video but may decide to change some things about it after I have gathered some audience opinions. For now I am going to be focusing on getting my website done.

Happy With Progress

I am really happy with the progress that I have made over the past few days. I have filled quite a few gaps in my song with my new footage that I filmed last week so that has been successful!

All Footage is Captured

For this hour I have used the time to capture all the footage from my camera and transfer it to the computer. This has been a successful hour and I can now get on with putting the footage together. l

Filming

Filming last Thursday went really well and I think I have managed to get some interesting shots I can use to fill the rest of the gaps in my video. I made Stacey walk outside in bare foot and run around in the freezing cold in just a dress so we hurried the filming outside along to save her getting too cold! I also forgot to charge my camera before filming so I had to find an extension lead that would reach out of my window and into the field. Luckily I found one that was really long so I could keep the camera on charge whilst I filmed. This is something I would change if I need to do any filming for my video again as it was very inconvenient and took up some of mine and Stacey's time running around trying to find extension leads etc. Last lesson I put some of the footage onto the computer and managed to fill my first gap that needed filling. I now have to transfer the footage again as I didn't do it the most sufficient way last time and it has now gone off my computer, this is a bit irritating as it takes about 20 minutes to do, although I will ensure it will stay on my files for good after transferring it this time.
